How to Get to Bayerisch Eisenstein by Train

Take the train to the Bavarian Forest

The station at Bayerisch Eisenstein is within walking distance of the houses (about 10-15 minutes walk). The trains run every hour to and from Plattling (not at night) where you can connect with or from long distance trains. We are happy to meet you at the station when you arrive and take you back at the end of your stay.

The German train system can be checked at www.bahn.de. There is an English version of the site. You can check not only the times of trains to and from any destination in Europe but also tram and bus timetables.

The information below is correct to the best of our knowledge but we cannot take any responsibility for its accuracy. Please check everything yourself before you book anything.

The cheapest and easiest way of travelling from the UK at the moment (17.12.12) is to get the 6.50 from St. Pancras/7.08 from Ebbsfleet/07.28 from Ashford, arriving BE at 19.13 but have your running shoes ready for Brussels as there are only 17 minutes to change trains. It is best if you book fast, as soon as the tickets go on sale (3 months before) - book from London even if you are getting on in Kent as it can be cheaper. Otherwise book Eurostar to Brussels and cheap return from there to Eisenstein (via www. bahn.de). If you don't fancy running, stay the night in Brussels and get a train around 10.25 the next day.

Generally, if travelling within Germany, the earlier you book, the cheaper the tickets. Also, there are not usually cheaper options for return tickets so you can easily book 2 singles at the same price, especially if you are booking as soon as the tickets become available (i.e. they will become available on different dates for the outward and return journeys).

If you are travelling within Bavaria, the cheapest and easiest way is to use the BayernTicket.

Weekdays you need to travel after 09.00 but no restrictions at weekends. This is the cheapest way to get here from Munich city or Munich airport even for just 2 people.

IF YOU ARE FLYING INTO MUNICH AIRPORT, YOU DO NOT NEED TO GO TO THE CENTRE OF MUNICH TO GET HERE - JUST GET THE BUS LINK TO FREISING, TRAIN TO PLATTLING AND CHANGE TO THE TRAIN TO BAYERISCH EISENSTEIN.

The travel options are very much better Monday - Friday than at weekends (please remember that you can book with us to arrive and depart on any day of the week).

We can meet you!

If you arrive at Bayerisch Eisenstein by train, we can collect you and your luggage from the station and take you back there when you leave (no charge).

If you are walking from the station, simply come out of the station and turn left. As you approach the end of the cobbled Bahnhofstrasse, take the 2nd turning round from your left. We are the big yellow house with the green shutters on the right.
