1 or 2 WEEKS IN BAVARIA/BOHEMIA

Ideas for 1-2 weeks in the Bavarian/Bohemian Forests – these ideas can all be done on foot (nothing too strenuous) and by public transport if you don’t have a car with you

Monday

Drive or take the bus to the Arber mountain. Take the gondola ride up the mountain. Have lunch at one of the restaurants there to enjoy the view. Take the circular walk around the peak for panoramic views of the Bavarian and Bohemian Forest mountains and even the Alps, on a clear day. Then enjoy a game of table tennis or badminton or read a book from our library on your balcony/terrace and drop into the Forsthaus for ‘Kaffee und Kuchen’. Then off to use your Bavarian Forest Holidays voucher towards dinner at the Poeschl Stuben.

Tuesday

Morning: take Martin’s English language guided walk around the village, giving fascinating information on Bayerisch Eisenstein, past and present.

Afternoon: visit the Local Railway Museum and the Train Station – for a more in depth view of local history. In the evening, join us for a free tasting of local schnaps.

Wednesday

Take the ‘Bohemerwaldcourier’ train trip for the day to Klatovy in the Czech Republic, with guided tours of the town, including the Baroque Pharmacy and catacombs. Lunch included. (Advance booking essential)

Thursday

Morning - take the walk along the canal and the river with the possibility of seeing kingfishers and signs of beaver activity.

Have lunch at the Grenzglashuette (demonstration glassworks) in the village, using your Bavarian Forest Holidays voucher, and watch the glass blowing in the afternoon.

Join us for a barbecue in the evening.

Friday

Take the day trip by coach to Cesky Krumlow, UNESCO World Heritage Site in Czech Republic. Beautiful medieval town on a bend in the river, with spectacular castle. In the evening, unwind with a good film from our DVD collection.

Saturday

Walk through the Bavarian Forest National Park to Schwellhaeusl, an old woodcutter’s cottage next to a small lake, for lunch.

Then walk on to Ludwigsthal and the animal enclosures at Haus zur Wildnis. Take traditional ‘Kaffee und Kuchen’ at the visitor’s centre and take the train back to Bayerisch Eisenstein.

Relax with a sauna or massage in Haus Peter in the evening.

Sunday

Take the train to Passau to enjoy the old town at the point where 3 rivers meet: Danube, Inn and Ilz. Enjoy wandering through the narrow streets. Take a 40 minute boat trip to see the town from the water. Have lunch in front of the Rathaus, with spectacular views of the castle and the cruise boats on the river. Visit the museum with the largest collection of Bohemian glass in the world.

Week 2

Take the train to the medieval city of Regensburg.

Take the bus trip to Prague.

Visit the glass village of Frauenau (by train) with its glass museum and numerous glass shops and workshops.

Visit the resort village of Bodenmais (by train), including the Joska glass works, Silberberg historic silver mine, summer toboggan run.

Visit the Great Arber Lake (by bus), an ice lake with circular walk, have lunch overlooking the lake, visit the fairy tale park.

Play mini-golf or a game of tennis in the village.

Spend a day in Zwiesel visiting the Schott glassworks and factory shop, with the highest pyramid of wine glasses in the world, the Forest museum and Hieke schnaps shop.
