These are the events which we know about at the moment. Details of current events are always posted on the notice board at the Forsthaus. We are happy to arrange tickets to events for guests. (Exact dates for each year will be added when available).

July 17th-18th, 2010 Grainet Saeumerfest (salt carriers festival) - a reminder of Grainet's former importance on the Golden Route between Bavaria and Bohemia. The high point is at 11.00 on Sunday when the procession arrives from its camp. There is a mediaeval market on the village square, with sword fights and music.

Regen 135th Pichelsteiner Fest - Gondolas provide rides on the river Regen. Visitors can taste the famous original Pichelsteiner Eintopf (casserole) in the beer tents.

Furth im Wald Drachenstichspiele (Dragon Slaying Festival) The biggest historical spectacle in East Bavaria. A 500 year old tradition, originally based on the legend of St. George slaying the dragon. There are performances of the play depicting the medieval Hussite wars. Tickets need to be booked). On one day, there is jousting, a procession through the town with 1,500 participants in costume, more than 200 horses, bands and floats depicting 1,000 years of the area's history, beer festival. On another day, a children's historical festival.

August 7th, 2010Grafenau Saeumerfest (Salt Carriers Festival) Celebration of the 625 year history of the oldest town in the Bavarian Forest. The Salt Carriers make a camp on the Friday night at Haus im Wald (8km from Grafenau) and process on the Saturday to Grafenau where they are received on the Saturday by the Mayor and Council. On the town square, there is a market with historical craft demonstrations, mummers and musicians.

August 6th-7th, 2010Spiegelau Country Days and Western Nights, Highlander Ranch, Spiegelau/Palmberg. Horse race, Western Flea Market. Western encampments during the whole event, with cowboys, Indians, settlers and gold prospectors.

August 26th-31st, 2010Karpfham/Bad Griesbach, Rottal Karpfhamer Fest Largest agricultural show and family festival in Bavaria. Large fun fair. 6 large beer tents. Large annual show of agricultural equipment in Southern Germany. 37 different bands and entertainers.

September 3rd-5th, 2010Schloss Wolfstein, Freyung Freyunger Schlossfest. Friday 18.00 Historic procession through Freyung to Schloss Wolfstein, Saturday/Sunday: Historic market and camp fires, fencing demonstrations, bird of prey demonstrations, medieval music, fire eaters, belly dancers, children's programme. Sunday from 08.00 Flea market along the Grafenauer Strasse. Music, food and drink all day.

September 5th, 2010 Bischofsmais 14th St. Hermann Ride, from 09.00. Procession to St. Hermann, church service, procession through Bischofsmais and back to St. Hermann. From midday, beer tent and food. Afternoon: free pony rides and horse and cart rides.
