The Year in Bayerisch Eisenstein

February

This is the main skiing season in the Bavarian Forest. The weather is usually cold (can go down to -18C at night) and there is plenty of snow.

The peak of the skiing season is the Faschingswoche (carnival week) when all the Bavarian schools are on holiday. The village is packed. Best avoided by people without children on holiday that week (5th-12th March in 2011)!

Fasching (Carnival) festivities in Bayerisch Eisenstein are on the Saturday before the start of Lent and consist of a procession in fancy dress, followed by coffee and home made cakes and a party in the evening, with food and drink, dancing and entertainment put on by people in the village.

There is a music festival in Plzen, Smetana Days, which usually starts in February and continues until April.
