How to Find Bayerisch Eisenstein
Car hire in Bavaria, Germany
If you want to do your main journey to and from Bayerisch Eisenstein by train and just rent a car for a few days, or want a car which you can definitely take into the Czech Republic, we can arrange this with a local car hire company.
3 important points about car hire
1. Czech Republic
Some car hire companies will not allow you to take some or all of their cars into the Czech Republic. There are 5 international car hire companies listed as operating from Munich airport. We checked their websites on 24.3.2010 and found the following information, which should also apply to rentals from other airports in Germany and Austria:
- Hertz do not allow Mercedes, BMW, VW and Audi, convertibles, Landrover and Chrysler Cherokees to be taken into Czech Republic. For other cars you must ask for special document confirming that you have permission (Genehmigung).
- Europcar allow cars in the following categories to be taken into the Czech Republic: mini, economy, compact, lower class and medium class cars.
- Sixt do not allow the following makes of cars to be taken into the Czech Republic: Audi, BMW, Mercedes, VW, Porsche, Jaguar and all Jeeps/Off road cars.
- Avis and Alamo/National do not allow any of their cars to be taken into Czech Republic.
We cannot take any responsibility for the accuracy of this information. Please double check with the car hire company when you make your booking.
- 2. Winter travelling
If you are coming in winter, you need to insist that your hire car is fitted with winter tyres if there is any chance of driving in snowy conditions: under German law, the driver is responsible for making sure that the car is fit for the weather conditions and driving with summer tyres in snow could mean the driver being held personally responsible for the damage arising from an accident because the insurance is invalidated. Check the availability of winter tyres when making the booking and again when collecting the car. Some companies charge extra for this. The roads are kept very clear between snowfalls.
- 3. Travelling with children
If you are travelling with children under 12 years or 1.5 metres in height, they must have a child seat or booster cushion. Check when you book that your car hire company can provide these.
