As featured in the Sunday Times, Times and Mail on Sunday newspapers, Ryanair in flight magazine and Overseas Property TV! Click here to read reviews of Haus Sterr on Trip Advisor.

In the largest range of forested mountains in Central Europe, on the border with the Czech Republic, half way between Munich and Prague, we offer 7 spacious, beautifully modernised 'full service' holiday apartments in 3 neighbouring houses on the edge of the village of Bayerisch Eisenstein - we are not an agency, we own and manage these properties ourselves and live in Haus Sterr.

The apartments are a few metres from the Bavarian Forest National Park, shops, restaurants and the Czech border. There are peaceful walks, cycling/mountain biking, tennis, riding, skiing and snowboarding on the Arber mountain and cross country skiing everywhere. History and culture are all around. There is a wider variety of things to do and see here than almost anywhere else in Europe.

Bayerisch Eisenstein is about 10 hours driving time from Calais - the same as the South of France - and 2 hours by car, slightly longer by train, from Munich, Nuernberg, Prague or Linz airports. Or catch the train from London after an early breakfast and eat dinner in Bayerisch Eisenstein!

Arrival and departure can be on any day of the week and your stay can be any number of days.

A car is not essential as there are good local train and bus services. We provide a free transfer service from the local station to the house.

We have decorated, furnished and equipped the apartments to international standards and each offers:

'Full Service'

The English owners of Haus Sterr, Margaret Leach and Martin Holborow, are usually resident at the house. Margaret speaks fluent German.

We aim to provide:

  • the space, comfort and privacy of top quality self catering,
  • the services of a good quality hotel
  • the friendliness of a B&B

Each apartment is the perfect base for a completely independent holiday, with all the information you need to enable you to plan your holiday and make the best of the facilities of the property.

As well as the information packs, we also aim to be available when needed, to give advice and suggestions, arrange tickets to events and provide anything (within reason!) you might need. We are also happy to take guests along to local events.

We offer all guests a guided walk around the village to see the main attractions, shops, restaurants (we have translated most of the local menus into English) etc. and learn something of the history of the village and the area.

Whenever possible, we also offer a schnaps tasting evening and a barbecue to guests, if they wish to  come. These are sociable

evenings, with a chance to meet fellow guests, exchange tips on the best places to visit or just relax.
